The 6 advantages of laser cutting over CNC milling

Another technique that is often compared to laser cutting is milling. There are six reasons to choose a laser cutting machine over a CNC milling machine. Furthermore, a laser cutting machine allows you to process a wider range of materials, such as textiles and leather. This means a laser cutting machine offers more possibilities. A CNC milling machine has parts that need to be replaced regularly. A laser cutter does not have this issue and is therefore much more durable as it lasts longer. Buying a laser cutter has its advantages.

Compared to a CNC milling machine, a laser engraving machine produces less waste material. The laser head does not come into contact with the material, so there is no mess to deal with.

How does a CO₂ laser cutting machine work?

A BRM laser cutting machine contains a glass tube filled with a mixture of different gases. When a specific voltage is passed through the tube, a laser beam is generated. This beam is directed towards the laser head using mirrors and focused by a lens. This creates the power required to cut various materials with precision and efficiency.

The laser cutter operates using CNC technology. This allows you to send a file from a computer to the laser cutting machine. The machine is controlled by software that can convert a vector drawing and send it to the machine. As the laser head can be moved along various axes, it can cut out any design. With an accuracy of up to a tenth of a millimetre.
