The 6 advantages of laser cutting over CNC milling
Another technique that is often compared to laser cutting is milling. There are six reasons to choose a laser cutting machine over a CNC milling machine. Furthermore, a laser cutting machine allows you to process a wider range of materials, such as textiles and leather. This means a laser cutting machine offers more possibilities. A CNC milling machine has parts that need to be replaced regularly. A laser cutter does not have this issue and is therefore much more durable as it lasts longer. Buying a laser cutter has its advantages.Waste material
Compared to a CNC milling machine, a laser engraving machine produces less waste material. The laser head does not come into contact with the material, so there is no mess to deal with.
Post-processing
In most cases, no further finishing is required. Your wooden products are finished to a high standard and ready for use straight away.
Accuracy
The engraving machine engraves wood with an accuracy of one-tenth of a millimetre and is always precise.
Service life
A BRM wood engraving machine has no tools that are prone to wear and tear and is built to last.
Is a laser cutter right for me?
The possibilities offered by laser cutting machines are virtually limitless. For example, these machines are used in the fashion industry, the advertising industry and shipbuilding. Many companies are therefore still unsure whether a laser cutting machine could be of interest to them. Take a look at our customers’ experiences.

The machine is also widely used in model-making and scale model construction to cut out scale models. Other companies use laser cutters to produce prototypes of items such as drones. The possibilities offered by a laser cutter are endless; the machines are useful across a wide range of industries and are used for many different applications.

How does a CO₂ laser cutting machine work?
A BRM laser cutting machine contains a glass tube filled with a mixture of different gases. When a specific voltage is passed through the tube, a laser beam is generated. This beam is directed towards the laser head using mirrors and focused by a lens. This creates the power required to cut various materials with precision and efficiency.
The laser cutter operates using CNC technology. This allows you to send a file from a computer to the laser cutting machine. The machine is controlled by software that can convert a vector drawing and send it to the machine. As the laser head can be moved along various axes, it can cut out any design. With an accuracy of up to a tenth of a millimetre.
