Frequently Asked Questions
What is laser engraving?
Laser engraving involves altering the surface of materials using a laser beam. The beam removes part of the top layer of the material. Because this process is extremely precise, it is ideal for text or images. You can engrave the coolest designs onto a wide variety of objects and materials in no time at all – on wood, plastic, glass or metal, for example. The possibilities are endless. Would you like to know if your idea is feasible? Give us a call or send us an email; we’d be happy to tell you more.
How much does laser engraving cost?
That depends on a number of factors. What materials do you use? Plywood, for example, is cheaper than acrylic. How large is your batch size? If you’re producing a large number of items and making full use of the work surface, the laser machine will make fewer start-up and stop movements. That’s obviously very efficient. Do you use high speed and power, or rather less? That is also a factor. And, of course, the machine itself: the smallest enclosed BRM laser is available for around €10,000.
Which materials can I laser-engrave and which ones can’t I?
We can be brief on that. There are simply so many materials you can use. Textiles, all kinds of wood, leather, cardboard, paper and countless plastics. With a special laser spray, you can also mark bare metal, glass, mirrors, ceramics, porcelain and natural stone. Does your material contain PVC? If so, we strongly advise against laser engraving. Not sure whether your specific material is suitable? Just ask us.
Does a laser engraving machine require a lot of maintenance?
One of the advantages of a laser machine is that it requires little maintenance. However, it is important to check all optical and mechanical components regularly. Keep your work area and the space underneath free of dust and dirt. You can also clean the mirrors and lens yourself using the correct method. And, of course, you can arrange a service with us. We’ll then come round to adjust and check everything. Give us a call or send an email and we’ll schedule it for you.
