Laser cutting Plexiglas with BRM
Are you looking for an efficient and precise way to process Plexiglas? Then Plexiglas laser cutting with a BRM laser machine is the solution. Whereas traditional methods are often time-consuming and cumbersome, a laser cutter puts an end to rough cut edges, slow production and high post-processing costs. BRM Lasers helps you to easily cut and engrave Plexiglas — from advertising letters to decorative panels or industrial applications.
Below you can read all about laser cutting plexiglass: the benefits, applications, available types of plexiglass and which BRM laser cutting machine best suits your needs.
What is plexiglass and why choose laser cutting?
Plexiglass, also known as acrylic, Perspex® or under the brand name Acrylox®, is a widely used plastic that looks like glass but is up to 30 times stronger. Its technical name is PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). Thanks to its glass-like appearance, low weight and high impact resistance, plexiglass is popular in sectors such as advertising, industry and interior design.
With a BRM laser cutting machine, you can process this material quickly, accurately and without the need for post-processing. The laser beam melts the plexiglass with precision along the pre-set cutting line, resulting in smooth, clear edges—without any white haze or melted corners.

How does plexiglass laser cutting work?
Plexiglas laser cutting is a non-contact technique in which a laser beam cuts through the Plexiglas.
How does it work?
The laser is generated in a gas-filled glass tube, where an electric current produces a beam of light invisible to the naked eye. This beam is precisely directed onto the plexiglass via mirrors and lenses. The point where the beam hits the surface becomes extremely hot, allowing you to cut through the plexiglass.
Automatic control
The process is fully computer-controlled (CNC), meaning you simply need to load a design. The machine then executes it with maximum precision – producing the same result every time.
The benefits of laser cutting acrylic
Laser cutting plexiglass offers many different advantages over other techniques such as sawing or milling. Below, we highlight the key benefits that you will see immediately in your production process and end result when you laser cut plexiglass with a BRM laser.
- No post-processing required
Whilst a milling machine leaves rough, white edges that require flame polishing, the BRM laser immediately produces a smooth and glossy cut line. This saves you time and resources. - High cutting speed
Because the laser operates contactlessly and quickly, you can produce up to 50% faster than with traditional machining techniques. - Precision down to 0.1 mm
Even the most detailed shapes, text and patterns can be cut or engraved perfectly with a BRM laser. Ideal for precision projects such as façade lettering or logos. - No physical stress on the material
The laser operates without contact, so you do not need to clamp the plexiglass sheets. This prevents pressure marks or deformation of the material. - Minimal maintenance costs
As there is no mechanical wear, your machine will last longer and maintenance is kept to a minimum. You also avoid having to replace cutting heads or milling bits. - Cutting and engraving
With a BRM laser machine, you can not only cut plexiglass but also engrave it — for example, for brand logos, QR codes or decorative patterns. - Increased production capacity
Thanks to the combination of speed, accuracy and reduced manual labour, you can increase your output by up to 150% without compromising on quality.
Plexiglas laser cutting: suitable for many different applications
Laser cutting of plexiglass is used across various industries. Thanks to its weather resistance, high transparency and fine finish, the material is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. Below are just a few of the many possibilities:
- Signage – such as light boxes, nameplates or displays
- Facade lettering & milled lettering – with clean contours and sharp cut lines
- Shop window displays – for example, holders, stands or transparent trays
- Aquariums & display cases – a strong and safe alternative to glass
- Trophies & awards – engraved with a logo or name
- Doors, shutters or partition panels – lightweight, durable and aesthetically pleasing
- Technical enclosures – custom-made covers or protective plates
Whether you work in the signage industry, product development, shopfitting or engineering – laser cutting plexiglass with a BRM laser cutting machine delivers high-quality and versatile results.

What types of plexiglass can be laser-cut?
Plexiglas is available in a wide variety of colours, thicknesses and finishes. Plexiglas is primarily known as a clear and strong material that closely resembles glass. However, there are many more types suitable for laser processing, provided the material is free from PVC or other anion/chloride-containing materials. This is because anions and chlorides are highly harmful to health when released. As well as being harmful to health, it also damages the machine. The most common types of plexiglass suitable for laser cutting are:
- Impact-resistant
- Sustainable (100% recycled)
- Opaque
- Fully colourless and transparent
- Transparent RAL
- Fluorescent
- Satin
- Mirror finish, in multiple colours
- Scratch-resistant
- Anti-reflective coated
- And much more
