After spending a year working with wood using a demonstration model, Eric van Est of Wood Sensation purchased his second BRM 6090. This time, a brand-new one! Wood Sensation originally started out as a flooring supplier. A supplier of floor oils asked them to produce samples of the wood they use for their floors. Various oil products are applied to colour these samples. Finally, the name of the relevant product is engraved into the sample. That was the reason for choosing a laser machine. Previously, they outsourced that work because they were doing it for a single supplier. But at present, they carry out this work for seven companies.

Why this size?

The samples found in colour charts are often around 7 cm wide and 25 to 35 cm long. Other dimensions are, of course, also possible. In any case, a certain quantity is loaded into the machine at a time, so that everything can be laser-cut in one go. Now that we have two laser machines, we alternate their use slightly.

Other materials too?

They are now aiming to be able to use the machines for other purposes as well. This year, they are well set up with orders for the laser machines right up to the end of the year. After that, they really want to start making other products. For example, cutting items for promotional purposes and the like. They are currently gathering ideas for this. Also regarding the use of other materials such as mirrors or acrylic.

Is training in laser cutting and engraving a requirement?

Eric van Est says that the course was definitely useful. Their first machine has been there for a year and the latest one was installed recently. So it’s handy to do an in-depth training course simply to be able to use the machine as effectively as possible. To get the most out of it. Two of them attended the course. There are others who also work with the machine. A decision had to be made, however, as not everyone could be away at the same time. The person who knows the most now is also the one who works most on the steel sets. Such training is, of course, absolutely essential for that. For us as owners, it is less necessary.

“For our purposes, BRM’s laser machine is simply ideal.”

Nothing wrong with that!

They first met VROTECH at a trade fair in Belgium. And to this day, the relationship is still going strong. When asked about the value for money of the BRM 6090, Eric says: ‘It’s fine as it is, absolutely nothing wrong with it!’
