Outbase Campervans: bespoke solutions and precision thanks to the BRM laser machine

For Tim, owner and founder of Outbase Campervans, it’s all about freedom and adventure. From his workshop, he and his team build unique campervans, all based on the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. Every van is fully custom-built, with an eye for detail, quality and the overall experience.

At Outbase Campervans, nothing is left to chance. Tim explains: “It’s a product developed entirely in-house. Everything inside the van has been conceived and designed by us. We don’t use standard off-the-shelf materials.” Because the team designs and manufactures everything themselves, every interior can be tailored precisely to the customer’s wishes. That calls for a production method that is just as flexible as their designs.

Our own laser cutting machine

To achieve that high level of customisation, Outbase Campervans uses a BRM laser machine. “Our entire interior, everything made of wood, is cut to size using the BRM laser. For us, that’s an essential part of the production process,” explains Tim. The laser’s precision and efficiency ensure a clean finish and less material waste. “Using the machine creates a better working environment, reduces strain and energy consumption, and also minimises waste material. You can place the cutting lines much closer together than with a CNC machine.”

Before Outbase Campervans had its own laser machine, production was less smooth. “If a part wasn’t laser-cut quite right, we had to have it adjusted by the company that did the cutting for us. That could easily take two days,” says Tim. Now that’s a thing of the past: “These days, you can have the same part ready again within ten minutes.” Thanks to the BRM laser, the team works faster, more flexibly and with greater control over the end result.

Working with BRM

Tim is also enthusiastic about the collaboration with BRM. “The installation of the machine was handled very well. During the initial set-up, there were a few minor issues to ensure it ran perfectly, but these were resolved very quickly. That has been a very positive experience for us.” Since then, the machine has been running without any problems. “So far, the machine has actually run completely faultlessly. And something else that’s incredibly important to us: if the laser machine isn’t running, we miss a day’s production. Fortunately, that’s never happened.”

With their love of freedom, technology and design, Outbase Campervans builds not only campervans, but also experiences. Thanks to the precision, reliability and efficiency of the BRM laser machine, they can do this day in, day out, with the same dedication with which their customers hit the road.
