De Nieuwe Kaartenmakers are two young entrepreneurs who create highly creative cards. The cards can be hung on the wall as decoration. By using different layers of wood and a variety of colours, the cards are a real treat for the eyes.

“What we want to focus on are the depths and heights of the world. Because people have no idea how beautiful it is underwater.” The maps are exclusive, as only a few of each type are produced. These are then available to buy in the De Nieuwe Kaartenmakers webshop.

The process

All the maps are hand-drawn on the computer and all the wooden panels are hand-painted. “Ultimately, we have to cut them out. And that’s simply not possible with a saw. Because you can’t get that level of precision. So every layer is cut out using a laser.” After cutting, all the wooden pieces are glued onto the map by hand.

“Without the laser, our business wouldn’t exist. If I were to cut this out with a jigsaw, it would take me a whole day per layer! With the laser, it takes about an hour.”

Added value

For De Nieuwe Kaartenmakers, the laser machine is essential to the card-making process. The machine’s high precision ensures that the cards come out of the machine exactly as they were designed on the computer. What’s more, it’s incredibly fast. “Without the laser, our company wouldn’t exist. If I were to cut this out with a jigsaw, it would take me a whole day per layer! With the laser, it takes about an hour.” De Nieuwe Kaartenmakers have therefore never regretted purchasing their BRM laser machine. “It couldn’t be better than this. I think the laser is the best machine for the job.”
