Brandthout creates creative wall decorations using their BRM Original 90130 laser machine. Among other things, they produce some really cool city maps. These ‘city maps’ are a real treat for the eyes. They also engrave photographs and are currently experimenting with all sorts of other materials.
Since 2018, Brandthout has been working to raise the profile of its products. Since then, they have made significant progress thanks to their laser machine, which is at the heart of the business. At Brandthout, we spoke to EsperElin, co-owner of the company. Among other things, she is responsible for all of Brandthout’s marketing.
The products
EsperElin tells us more about exactly what Brandthout does. “We started out laser-engraving city maps onto wood. But we’re constantly discovering new possibilities, and we’ve now also created beautiful maps on aluminium. All our maps are very detailed, which is why so many people love hanging them on the wall. We also engrave lots of photos onto wood; people can send us their own photos. We’re also sometimes asked by a company to laser-cut a logo or something similar, and we’re more than happy to do that too.”
Method
EsperElin explains the process of creating the city maps. “We buy the wood cut to size, then ensure all the panels are neatly sanded. Next, we load the file onto the machine and let the laser do its work. Once the map is finished, we treat it with a varnish so it stays looking good even when exposed to UV light.”
Editing the maps on the computer is also quite a job, says EsperElin. “We use the maps from OpenStreetMap, but we have to edit them completely afterwards. Sometimes there are too many lines that we need to remove, or we need to add lines. That way, we ensure it becomes a beautiful, complete map.”

According to EsperElin, they’ve also been very pleased with BRM’s service. “Recently, the filter on our BRM Extractor was full, so we rang them straight away. We were able to pick it up immediately because BRM is just round the corner. So that was sorted in no time! We’ve been very happy with our choice of BRM. They really do help you with your problems straight away.”

At Brandthout, they use the laser machine every day to manufacture all their products. “The laser machine is everything; it’s what enables us to create such beautiful city maps and engrave photos so beautifully. Without the laser machine, our company wouldn’t exist! As well as city maps, we can do so much more with the laser machine, and we’re discovering all those possibilities too. That’s what’s so brilliant about the machine – it’s so versatile. The laser machine has really helped our business grow.”
